See Dane Run: One Man 52 Weekends, 52 Marathons

Foreword by Dick Beardsley:

Dane Rauschenberg’s account of his personal triumph, all the hard work, the long hours, and the solitary effort is a must read for anyone who has ever dreamed of doing the impossible. It is an honor to be asked to write the foreword to this journal of one man's determination to fulfill a lifelong dream.

To run a marathon takes a certain kind of courage, a commitment to long, often solitary training runs in all conditions, a singularity of purpose and not just a little bit of faith. To run 52 marathons in 52 weeks is an order of magnitude of difference. The focus and determination, the flexibility to take what the marathon gives you and the faith to go on, to keep on when every part of you wants to stop, this is the mark of the true long distance runner.

I have run many marathons in my life. At one time as an elite runner and now as competitive masters runner with a commitment to giving it my best every time I set out. No matter what one's status is as a runner, the miles hurt each of us in much the same way, and equally, those same miles raise us up to be our best in much the same way. The people we meet, the sights we see, the things we learn about who we are and in the end, why we are here, are valuable not only to each of us individually but to anyone who has ever set out on a long journey of unknown result.

So put on your good running shoes, settle back in your comfortable chair and go on a journey with a remarkable runner, a remarkable man....Dane Rauschenberg
